NewJeans Holds Press Conference to Unilaterally Announce Contract Termination with ADOR
The South Korean girl group NewJeans recently held a press conference to unilaterally announce that their exclusive contract with their agency, ADOR, would be terminated as of midnight on the 29th. On the same day, the five members issued another statement, reaffirming that the contract termination had taken effect and that they would now operate independently from ADOR and its parent company, HYBE.
The group emphasized that “this contract termination was conducted fully in accordance with the terms of the exclusive agreement” and reiterated that the decision was due to ADOR’s breach of contract, not any fault on the members’ part. As a result, no penalties or compensation for breach of contract are applicable.

ADOR Responds: Contract Remains Valid, HYBE’s Market Value Drops by 345.7 Billion KRW
In response, ADOR stated that the exclusive contract with NewJeans is still valid. The agency clarified, “The company has not breached the contract. A unilateral claim of broken trust is insufficient grounds for termination. The exclusive agreement is valid until July 31, 2029.”
ADOR also emphasized that it is actively planning NewJeans’ future activities, including a fan meeting and a new album next year. The company expressed its hope to resolve misunderstandings through direct communication and pledged to provide global resources to support the members’ careers if they choose to stay.
Following this controversy, HYBE’s market value dropped by 345.7 billion KRW (approximately 1.098 billion MYR). Despite ADOR’s stance, NewJeans maintains that the termination is effective and plans to continue fulfilling scheduled activities independently. Yesterday morning, the group was seen at Gimpo Airport, departing for Japan to attend a music festival.
The starkly opposing positions of both parties have drawn significant attention from fans and the industry, with many eagerly watching to see if the conflict can be resolved amicably.
